Workshops and Community Involvement

I am a certified Data and Software Carpentry instructor and have been helping with coding/data science workshops since 2018. I am also a lead maintainer for the Python for Atmosphere and Ocean Scientists Data Carpentry lesson. I organized and led the Washington State University Python Working Group, a group for students and professionals to share Python knowledge, during the '21/'22 school year. 2023	AgAID 2023 Digital AgAth0n AgAID Institue January 27 - 19 2023 Helped to lead, organize, and provide support for a three-day, multi university agriculture hackathon. Was awarded the AgAID Award of Excellence in Leadership for volunteering time to ensuring the success of the event. Event website
2022	Northern Vermont University's Atmospheric Sciences New Student Seminar Panelist Climate Change Research & Graduate School September 14, 2022 Lyndonville, VT via Zoom Participated as a panelist answering questions from first-year undergraduate students about graduate school and my Ph.D. research. CEREO REU Data Wrangling Workshop Documenting Research with R Markdown June 27 - 30, 2022 Pullman, WA Gave introductory talk on data-intensive research, public datasets, and the importance of documenting your data. Assisted in moderating and helping with questions from participants when not instructing. Graduate School/Arctic Research and a crash course introduction to Python and navigating the command line June 16 & 24, 2022 Pullman, WA Gave a series of two talks to the new Laboratory for Atmospheric Research students: How I got into graduate school, what it's like to be a graduate student, and a bit about my research and experience as an Arctic researcher. An introduction to Python Programming and an introduction to Unix and command line syntax. 2021	CEREO REU Data Wrangling Workshop Documenting Research with R Markdown June 7 - 8, 2021 via Zoom Lead a 2-hour lesson on how to use R Markdown to document your research. Assisted in moderating the Zoom meeting and helping with questions from participants when not instructing. Created and maintained the workshop website. Workshop website Reproducible Research Techniques with R GitHub Pages March 15 - 19, 2021 via Zoom Lead a 4 hour workshop via Zoom guiding participants through creating their own professional GitHub Pages website using my own GitHub pages lesson. Assisted in moderating the Zoom meeting and helping with questions from participants when not instructing. 2020	Reproducible Research Techniques with R GitHub Pages November 12 - 20, 2020 via Zoom Developed GitHub Pages lesson. Lead a 2.5 hour workshop via Zoom guiding participants through creating their own professional GitHub Pages website.
